If you’re feeling stressed out, confused, and worried about COVID-19, you’re not alone. These are stressful times. Whether we’re concerned about aging parents, our children, a roller-coaster economy, possible or real job loss, or our health, these days, there are many stressed-out people.
April is Stress Awareness Month, and it couldn’t come at a better time. At Hruby Chiropractic Care, we are not strangers to stress. Before the coronavirus was on the horizon, we saw stress affect our everyday patients. With that being said, the following are a few tips for handling stress during these challenging times:
Exercise regularly. With gyms being closed and social distance guidelines in place, you might be wondering how you are going to get exercise. You can still get aerobic exercise in the form of walking, running, hiking, or playing with your kids or pets. Take a walk at one of the Waukesha County Parks. If you prefer to stay home, consider yoga and meditation, starting with a list of the 6 Best Yoga YouTube Channels.
Maintain a healthy diet. Stress affects the frequency of our meals and the quality of our food. We can eat too little or too much, often turning to the fastest junk food to alleviate our emotions. Fight stress and emotional eating by being mindful of your stress triggers. Keep healthy snacks on hand, nourishing your body, protecting yourself to better deal with your anxiety.
Take a break. While it’s important to stay plugged in regarding the news and latest developments, the fluid nature of evolving communications can become overwhelming. Find a way to limit screen time. Go old school and bust out an old board game or a jigsaw puzzle and decompress from the news.
Connect with others. Text, FaceTime, Skype, email, or call an old friend, neighbor, or relative. Too much isolation leads to depression and anxiety. Making a point to connect with others helps alleviate loneliness and stress.
Consider chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments release muscle tension, calming the irritated spinal nerves, improving blood circulation. Chiropractic adjustments begin changes in the body that signal the brain to switch off the fight-or-flight response so the body can return to a more relaxed and tempered state.
